Thick Brush Stroke

While Aurangzeb had wives and concubines, historical accounts suggest

HIMANSHU MISHRA

that his harem was smaller than that of his predecessors. It is said that he preferred

the company of scholars, religious figures and administrators

rather than spending excessive time in the harem.

Aurangzeb's approach to the harem reflected his personal religious

commitments and his efforts to project a pious image as a ruler.

He sought to enforce strict Islamic practices in his court and throughout

the empire, which influenced his outlook on various

aspects of his personal life, including the harem.

There is also a rumor that Aurangzeb saw the women of his harem taking a bath and enjoyed the scene with his other concubines.
